In 1935, Tadashi Fukuda — the older brother of our company’s founder, Takashi Fukuda — developed and manufactured Japan’s first domestically produced electrocardiograph. At a time when cardiac diagnostics in Japan depended entirely on imported equipment, this was a landmark achievement: proof that Japanese engineering could meet the demands of modern medicine.
That original device still exists today. It stands as a reminder of where Fukuda Denshi’s commitment to cardiac technology began — and of the spirit that has carried the company forward for nearly 90 years.
1939: A Company Is Founded
Four years later, in 1939, Fukuda Special Medical Electric Manufacturing Co., Ltd. was established — the direct predecessor of Fukuda Denshi as it exists today. Founded in the years leading up to World War II, the company was built on the idea that reliable, domestically produced medical technology was essential to the future of Japanese healthcare.
1953: Building a National Reputation
By 1953, Fukuda Denshi had established itself as a recognized name in Japanese medical technology. The company’s high-performing AC electrocardiograph and direct thermal writing electrocardiographs earned broad medical recognition — and with it, the foundation for nationwide expansion. Sales locations were established in major cities across Japan, marking the beginning of what would become a decades-long commitment to accessible, reliable cardiac diagnostics.
From a single invention in 1935 to a nationally recognized medical device company by the early 1950s, the first chapter of Fukuda Denshi’s story is one of innovation, precision, and purpose.
